Only Anne

Book & Lyrics by John Dietrich
Music by Will Buck

ONLY ANNE re-imagines Austen’s novel Persuasion at the dawn of the Jazz Age. Great Britain rising
out of the ashes of World War I. A modern new world ever-changing, ever-moving: automobiles,
telephones, phonographs, and jazz music. Austen – accelerated.

Anne Elliot is forced to confront sacrifices she once made for her family when she finds herself face
to face with a previous love, the now highly regarded Admiral Frederick Wentworth, whom she was
persuaded to give up seven years prior.

Meanwhile, finding themselves caught in the upheaval of a changing world, and threatened by post-
War financial ruin, the entire Elliot family scramble to maintain their aristocratic existence, while
being torn between the traditional past they cling to and this new, rapidly shifting society.

Miscommunication and misperception, calculated appearances and careful maneuvering – all with
the hope of finding love in a swiftly changing world.
